1. Hear

On a train heading east of here
Where I’ll end up – I am not quite clear
But I can’t help myself I must be settling down
Until they stop this thing – I’ll get around

And I hear it’s been done before
And I hear It’s a simple thing
Then I hear it’s quite difficult
And hear almost everything

Pass through deserts with mountain streams
Outside my window the scenes serene
The day I find myself I’ll be so very proud
that I will not get passed up in the crowd

Now I’m not trying to cut anyone down
But I know it’s been going on too long
Simply doing what you feel
is the best way not to go wrong
Now I know it seems crazy
and it may be a struggle
but I can’t believe all this is true
So I’m here, I’m uneasy, and I’m ready to go
And I won’t stop until this thing goes round and round
and I can sing like I will never know

2. Ren

Sometimes when I hold my head in shame
I forget that I’m the one to blame
If I fall hopelessly on an endless journey
I’m beat up, broken, basted, angry
I can’t explain, but it’s true

Used to walk slowly now I’m running
Catching up’s getting hard to do
Tell me now, tell me know what’s got into you
Whispering softly now I’m screaming
My head starts to hurt, my heart’s in pain
Tell me now, tell me know when will you explain

Then there comes a time for me to say
Just how I feel, but words get in my way
If I fall aimlessly on an endless journey
Will I be strapped, held down unfriendly?
I can’t say why, but I try

3. Soon

O it’s said and done
O I’m not the only one
How was I to know-no one told me so
I just landed here and struggled to get by
Nothing much to see
Oh-so naïve And then it hit me like it has 1,000 times

One day soon it’s going to happen to you
and when it does it won’t be pretty.
One day soon it’s going to happen to you
and when it does… I won’t be there

O it’s said and done
O I’m not the only one
How was I to see the only difference is me
To think that holding steady hands will do just fine
One day you’ll agree
That you are truer to yourself than
any of us will ever be

4. Trampling Rose

So stay unmolested
Stand tall, don’t fall on the waste side
Sinking sand, delivery man,
Policewoman, government man
will listen to your screams
I know a place across the road
where the soul will listen
Stars are out
and stars are bright
and my eyes will glisten

On the water like a trampling rose

Doesn’t matter if I’m young or if I’m cold
Stay on the line, never get by
‘Cuz laziness does not pay
My heart is set on this old winter’s day
Son of a gun, You got me stunned
you cut me down. Don’t bother me
I’ve never been wrong, I’ve never been right
I never belonged, I’m never in sight

On the water like a trampling rose

The sun won’t lie to you
No the sun won’t lie to you
And if you catch the lying sun
You can knock him down, and you can bring him home
I am alone. The sun is going down
Waiting patiently for the waterly crown
Shoot through the cause
I want to shoot you, Shoot thru me
shoot thru you, I want to spit in the air
Am I there?

On the water like a trampling rose

5. Colossal Youth

Pacing slowly back and forth
I just got scolded for the worst
Thinking to myself am I to blame?
Father tells me what to do
Mother tells me how to feel
These days I wonder if I’m alive

Stop, stop what you’re doing to me
Can’t you see how it makes me feel?
I need to grow
So stop, stop what your doing to me
Can’t you see what I see
I need to grow

Can’t have freedom, can’t have taste?
Can’t I grow my hair this way?
Why do you try to tell me this is wrong?
The less you see the more you care
When I’m home you’re not there
I am youth but I see it just the same

Stop, stop what you’re doing to me
Can’t you see how it makes me feel?
I need to grow
So stop, stop what your doing to me
Can’t you see what I see
So I will stop!
Stop!

Stop, stop what you’re doing to me
Can’t you see it at all
So stop, stop what you’re doing to me
I don’t feel anything
I don’t even see it all

So here I sit all alone
I’m not even fully grown
But there is so much I would like to say
I tend to talk endlessly
About all that comes easy to me
Youth speaks now but I may end up being
something huge someday

6. Summertime

Summertime blows me away
And summertime I can’t stay
It’s not sensible, but I’m desperate
I’m a part of it

What I find takes me away
And what I find I can’t stay
It’s inevitable though’ I can’t let go
I will never know

Oh baby, “why does August get the best of me?”
September comes and I am hot to see
My heart will keep burning for you

Summertime blows me away
And summertime leads me astray
With these hopeless dreams of these endless things
I may not achieve

What I see I don’t know
But it’s killing me
I can’t see why everything crumbles
And I can’t let it be

Oh baby, “why does August get the best of me?”
September comes and I am hot to see
My heart will keep burning for you
Cus what I got they say will last for several days
Weather man says, “ain’t nothings going to change”
My heart will keep burning for you

7. Heaven

I believe in heaven and know
that I should just except it all
So content with the paths that I walk on
– surely I should see it all
So take care and don’t go to far,
I will miss your soul
When the distance grows
and the nights are long
and your scared at times
and you wonder why
Take care and don’t go to far
I will miss your soul

I’ve looked into the sky a hundred times
and I’ve seen the stars that shine so bright
I’m sure that one of them is you, my friend
Watching and waiting and hoping that
I’ll be alright
So take care and don’t go to far
I will miss your soul
And when the distance grows
and the nights are long
and you’re scared at times
and you wonder why
Take care I will miss your soul

The road back home is shorter than you know

8. Sundays

How long have we struggled here?
How long have we tried?
Don’t turn your back on me
I’m dying inside

Is there a yearning inside
That keeps the spirit free?
Is there a yearning inside
That reminds you we’ll succeed?

I’ve lost once before
I’m older now
Sometimes I can’t remember
But sometimes cannot forget how
I’ve lost one before
I’m older now
But sometimes I forget my age

Is there a yearning inside
That keeps the spirit free?
Is there a yearning inside
That reminds me we’ll succeed?
Someday
Sundays

9. Traveling Song

Looking back
on places I’ve been to,
funny how it seems that I must travel
and park in towns with roadside diners
and farmers who watch satellite TV
Nebraska town
I met a lady, her name is Marge,
and she sells antiques.
She says “it’s lovely weather”,
but I think she just wants to talk to me.
I believe it is simple to be
Let’s go out, and drive together
We’ll drive and drive
and we’ll drive all night
Spit sunflower seeds out the windows
and sing the best songs from the Jackson 5!
I believe it is simple just being free
I’ve been across this country
’bout half a dozen times and I’ve seen it all
like I’ve been there before.
I’ve hiked on the Badlands and seen the Corn Palace
and when we’re good
we stopped at a prairie dog town
Now I know it’s simple because I’ve seen it
Oh “mine eyes have seen the glory”
of America Magnificent and Divine
And I have read about all the people who built this sturdy nation,
creating what could very possibly be mine,
I believe it is so simple to be free –
I believe it is!

10. The Buick

I tried to see what in my life could be so wrong
I figured it out-all I need is a car to be so strong
So here I sit on the hood of a Buick
I feel real cool and the chicks all dig it
Things are going to change
And I think it’s happening now

Mama said
“Oh dear baby don’t leave me”
But, I’m a redneck adventurous pitch forked pup from the farm
And now I cruise on the high road to China
Got girls lined up way back to Ohio
Slicked back hair
with pomade that just won’t stop
And he said “Ahhh shucks!”
I figured it out all wrong

I wrecked that car on the night of my very first prom
Betty Lou got out and walked, in short, she was gone
So here I sit on this heap of a Buick
Best girl gone, oh I just knew it
Things are going to change
and I think it’s happening now

And he said “Ahh shucks!”
I figured it out all wrong
The only thing that matters now –
If you ain’t got a car – Stay Far!

11. Koo Koo Koo

Standing alone and I’m at the sea
This is it
It’s the end of a week
Sun is not out, but, the water’s right
Yeah, this is the life for me
Pelican dives as wind blows me chill
And I think all about my days
A light shines inside and I start to yell

“I’m not giving in to this silly game”

Koo Koo Koo
I may not be a rock star
But I’m not a fool
I may not be like you are
But I’m not, I’m not a silly fool

I don’t know what this has done to me
But I hope it can be reversed
My thoughts will change daily, and so do we
Just depends who I talk to first
Feeling uneasy, and not like myself
I wonder if I’m okay
A thought comes inside
it’s all too clear
It’s the same old thing on a
brand new day

12. Jubilee

Talking ’bout you and me
Is nothing short of a jubilee
Everything you gave to me is mine
Things I didn’t quite demand
Now I finally understand
This I’ll say until the day I die
Leaving flowers at my doorstep
Dropping notes in the mail

Persistence must be pumping in your veins
Telling friends that you love me
Showing up at everything
Funny how I don’t feel the same

Oh, but it’s too late baby
You used leave me hanging
Keep me waiting by the phone
And now I love to see your aching
Breaking, beat up, shaken, sorry
blubbering heart

Used to be you and me
Sitting underneath the tree
Everything was fine as I could see
Teasing me with your rhymes
Watching other girls go by

Think I’m blind? “Oh hunny, No not me!”
I would sit by the window
Waiting for your call
Fireflies were dancing in the trees.
Sweety pies from another places
Giving them all your love
How did you ever find the time for me?

13. Crazy Old World

Beauty poured out before me
of hills so green and grass so sweet
Aspen tree I lie beneath
Adored by all that’s wrapped around me
Purple mountains I can see
Rich blue sky I lie beneath
Mother Wind, whisper to me, tell me
all I need to know
Warm my skin don’t let me worry
Keep me straight don’t let me fall
I am tired but it’s a crazy old world
that I’ve been made a part of
So plant me like a seed, don’t let me toil

Quick and calm is the midnight
A darkness that is beautiful
Night’s passion gets the best of me
A million lights make up this city
Believe me, this is beautiful,
this vision overwhelms me
